Functional Lab Analysis

Functional analysis of lab work differs significantly from conventional analysis that your physician would order and interpret. Functional lab work typically assesses entire systems, providing us insight how the body is working as a whole. Because of this, functional lab analysis allows us to assess and address the body much more holistically than most of the mainstream testing performed in the medical system.

Functional labs often analyze samples like stool, urine, hair, and sometimes blood to measure biomarkers that aren't typically measured by traditional lab work. We can also utilize blood work, though we assess it differently than conventional analysis by searching for and interpreting patterns instead of individual marker irregularities.

Unlike conventional lab work, conventional lab work and analysis is not diagnostic. Though functional lab analysis, we seek to understand the body as a whole, address imbalances, and prevent disease.

Below are more details of the functional lab work I utilize in my practice, along with estimated pricing for ordering lab work.

Please note that functional lab work is offered on a case-by-case basis to individuals who have been implementing the foundations of holistic wellness for an extended period of time.

Hair Test Mineral Analysis

HTMA analyzes a small sample of hair to provide advanced nutritional testing for cellular mineral deficiencies and stored toxic metal status and offers a blueprint for nutrition/detox protocols that can support energy, performance and overall health.

GI Microbial Assay

The GI Map is a comprehensive stool test that relies on quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) technology to detect parasites, bacteria, H. pylori, fungi, and more by targeting the specific DNA of the organisms tested.

$549

Comprehensive Hormone Test

The DUTCH (Dried Urine Testing for Comprehensive Hormones) uses several samples of dried urine to look at sex hormones and their metabolites, the overall diurnal pattern of free cortisol, and the total distribution of cortisol metabolites in addition to OATs, which provide insight into nutritional deficiencies, oxidative stress, gut dysbiosis, melatonin, neuroinflammation, and more.

Functional Analysis of Blood Work

A comprehensive blood panel includes a CBC, CMP, iron panel, cholesterol and liver panel, full thyroid panel, and a few additional markers I have found to be helpful when assessing overall status. Functional analysis differs from diagnostic analysis in that we are looking at patterns in the blood work as opposed to individual out-of-range markers and use functional ranges, instead of standard lab ranges, to catch trends early and address them appropriately.
